I am Louisa. I am a wife, a mum of 2 boys, a writer and a loyal friend to some truly wonderful people. I am living an authentic life with my mental illness.
Loupy Lou – Loupy is a nickname my best guyfriend calls me, because he knows me well and knows that yes I am ‘Loupy’. Lou is what most of my close friends call me. Those who know the journey I have travelled, see me for the person who I am truly am and accept me, faults and all. So it seems fitting as I share myself with you that you get to know me as Loupy Lou.
Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. –Dr Seuss
After years of struggling with anxiety and trying to cope with young children, working and running a household, I discovered simplicity.
I began to simplify my life by slowing down and clearing the clutter both in my home and in my head. The clouds of depression and anxiety began to lift as I had the space to relish the simple things in life again, the beauty in a sunset, and the joy on my children faces when playing in nature.
My diagnosis of Bipolar type 2 in 2011 started my journey towards healing my mental ill health, with its many ups and downs that I have been through with the support of medication, psychologists, psychiatrists and group therapy.
It was only after being hospitalized a few years ago that I had to own up to my responsibility for my recovery. So I began seeking more holistic ways to live successfully with my mental illness, for example de-cluttering my home, grounding myself with time in nature, gentle exercise and several other steps to simplify my life.
I would love to share my simple steps to sanity to help you to not just survive, but to begin to thrive.
